How To Create An Azure File Share And Connect To A Linux Virtual Machine

This is something that I had to do while I’m working with some project works and I had a thought of sharing this in my blog for others to see the steps of creating an Azure File Share and Connect to a Linux Virtual Machine easily.

I hope you already created an Azure Storage account and go to the Storage Account Section

Create An Azure File Share : Go to Storage Account

To Create an Azure File Share Click on “Files

Create An Azure File Share : Click on "Files"

To Create a file share click on “+ File share” option

Create An Azure File Share : Start Create a File Share

Provide a Name , Quota (size), and click on “Create to complete the creation of the file share

In my case I used an Ubuntu server and “cifs-utils” to connect the file share, by default cifs-utils installed on the server other wise you might need to install it manually on the OS

Create a directory to create a mount point

You can easily generate the command to connect to the share, select the created file share and click on “Connect” and select the Operating System you need to connect to (Windows, Linux, MacOS). Command will generate right under the selection. Click on the Copy option to copy the command

Mount the file share using the copied command

Confirm your mount

Create An Azure File Share : Confirm with "mount" command

You can simply upload the file using azure portal

Create An Azure File Share : Manually upload the file

Checked the uploaded file from the OS

Create An Azure File Share : Check the file from the OS

You can create the file inside the OS and file can be accessed using the Azure Portal
